Pool Building :: Pool Design

Design
You need to complete design drawings showing shape, size, equipment, location decks, etc., including the finish elevation of the pool.

Plot Plan

Complete construction plans with plumbing schematics, special details, general specifications and layouts offer clear information to sub-contractors, resulting in a streamlined construction process with minimal errors or delays. We design plans for individuals or contractors wanting a residential swimming pool.

Planning & Design - During this phase, a site inspection is performed to evaluate needs for grading, elevation issues, water retention and construction access.
During this time, you meet with a Design Consultant to begin the process of designing your dream pool. This not only includes the shape and size of the pool, but the different products that will be used, colors and types of interior surfaces, decking considerations, water features, lighting considerations, and even how your surrounding landscaping plays into the design of your pool.

This is a great time to learn a lot about the pool industry and its products, and the BYOP method of pool construction. You will be able to make better decisions by gaining this knowledge.

Engineering and CAD Process - Once you have your dream pool envisioned, it is time to develop the engineering plans that the construction crews will use to build your pool.
The best way to design a pool plan is by using advanced Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) to create detailed, scaled plans of your pool and pool site. Every detail is captured in this plan to avoid any confusion or difference of opinions later.

You should make sure to follow strict engineering standards when developing your pool plan, and that they will not vary from your original dream of what your pool should look like.

Following the completion of the engineering, all plot plans are reviewed and construction permits are obtained.

The design of the pool is influenced by a number of items:

The Land in which you wish to construct the pool, eg On a large property you can locate the pool well away from the house as a separate identity, while in a small property you will need to relate the pool more to the house as it may have to be close or adjoining the house structure.
Also if the pool is set out in the yard a freeform style design possibly with a more natural set of finishers may blend in well, while if the pool is close to the house it may need to have more formal lines to match the house lines.

The Type of People who will predominately be using the pool, EG: Adults with young children or elder adults, or children-teenagers. In most cases the depth of the pool will be determined by the long term use. If you have a large family then some deeper 1.5-2.0M depth could be good for playing games in, but if you consider its use for 20 years when the parents are the only ones using it & they are older then possibly a 1.2-1.4M overall depth would be better.

The Possibility of Enclosing the Pool, due to weather etc. This could be necessary in colder climates to obtain long term usage. In this case the pool may be better set closer to the house to take advantage of one or more walls. Also consider partial covers with open sides to reduce UV damage to the users.

The Budget for the Pool. Most people would want the most elegant pool possible but it is always controlled by money. My only comment here is go for a smaller pool with better quality equipment & finishers rather than using your dollars to get the biggest possible area.

Swimming Pool Design Ideas
The shape of your pool. How will it integrate with your overall landscape design and plan?
Where will your pool be positioned in your yard? Will your swimming pool or water feature on your pool be a focal point of your landscape design AND from your interior?

What about safety? Do you have small children or have small children visiting? Is there a family member who may need a hand rail to help them in and out of the pool?

Will you use your pool for exercise, laps, diving, sports; volleyball, basketball, water polo?

Your swimming pool may be just to relax, lounge and entertain. Consider having a table with seating around it built into your pool. If you have views, be sure you can see them from at least one angle while floating in your pool.

How will you maintain your swimming pool? How much work is there and who will take care of it?

Swimming Pool Design Is Focal Point of Landscape
Integrate your swimming pool into your whole landscape plan for the best backyard design. Keeping this in mind will give you more livable and usable space. With a good overall landscape plan, you can use your swimming pool all year long in warm climates.

Imagine your windows open in fall and spring with your waterfall or water feature filling your home with the soothing sound of falling water. Thanksgiving dinner is awesome served by the swimming pool!

If your swimming pool and deck is positioned right you can enjoy the morning paper out by the pool on a sunny January day.
